Sinopsis
A woman, Cornelia, goes to the house where she lived in childhood because she has decided to commit suicide by poisoning herself there. In the house she meets another woman and together they remember with joy, then yearning and reproaches, several episodes in her youth, as for example her frustrated desire to be an actress or the day she stole a gold cigarette case. Then, Cornelia takes the poison and from that point on, strange noises, characters and events ensue. The appearance of a little girl that looks like a dwarf or of a masked thief only illuminate the singular and non-realistic universe of these characters. In a curious twist on the myth of Scheherazade, other character called Daniel, promises to kill her in exchange for her narration of the story of her life. Cornelia needs the destruction of all these characters, as if they were reflections of herself in a mirror. But every time she destroys the mirror in which she is looking at herself, she creates another. Hers is the eternal work of Penelope at her knitting. The story by Silvina Ocampo perhaps suggests that gazing at oneself in the mirror is the same as the operation of writing or creating, but she also narrates the last tragic, ironic and romantic moments of a young woman named Cornelia.
